The Greater Fishponds area has a wonderful array of shops ranging from Tesco, Morrisons, Cooperative, LIDL, WHAT Magastore, Rajani Superstores, Travis Perkins and ASDA Living to IKEA, NEXT, Halfords, Boots and Mothercare for big names and international shops including Alhumza Store, International Food Store, Bristol Sweet Mart and Wai Yee Hong for fresh produce, herbs & spices and ingredients as well as Natures Genius for Health Foods and all of the standard shops that you'd expect to find in a vibrant city suburb in between. Greater Fishponds International Quarter and Spice Trail is a collection of shops, restaurants and an international B&B including including: Turkish, African, Polish, Chinese and South Asian foods.

Greater Fishponds International Quarter

During the 1960's, 70's and 80s Lodge Causeway shopping area in Fishponds was the ideal district centre with successful individual shops and a waiting list of companies wanting to open shops here. But following the grand opening of Safeway Supermarket in the early 1990's and the closure of Beechen Drive and Chester Park Road, the main store in Lodge Causeway which was by now Somerfield decided to close and this had a domino effect on Lodge Causeway with shop after shop changing hands in to fast food outlets and later even Lloyds Bank closed here as well.

Lodge Causeway clawed back lots of customers with Tesco Express opening in the old Dillions news store but the the old Somerfield & Gateway store was always key to the success of the rest of Lodge Causeway shops.

Finally, we may have some great news for the area once again. An international food store very similar in design to Sweet Mart in Easton will be opening in this key store in May 2012. Staff here have worked for Sweet Mart and they are ready to make a real impact in Fishponds as well.

Their website is under construction and the new owner has said that whatever local people request, they will stock!

Robert Mills Architectural Antiques based next to Eastgate Oriental City is an Aladdin's Cave for historic furniture ranging from old church seats to household cabinets, panelling, fire places and much more. Famous after being shown on several TV shows, this hidden gem attracts people from around the world who are looking for antique furniture.
